Report from the 12th Umberto User Workshop


Users gathered on "Top of Zurich" on Nov 12/13

Umberto users met for the 12th time on November 12 and 13 for the annual Umberto User Workshop. The two-day event, held in a beautiful location on Uetliberg mountain overlooking the city of Zurich was attended by 38 participants from different industrial sectors, from consulting firms and research institutions.

The workshop featured a number of interesting presentations by users, who reported about their use of Umberto in industrial or research projects.

On the first day of the event, the focus of the first session was on projects where Umberto was used Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies. In the afternoon users reported about Umberto use in Regional Material Flow Management, as well as on projects in developing countries (An Environmental Management Infrormation System for Eco-Efficiency of Agro-Industries In Thailand based on Umberto).

The second day had a number of presentations from process industry, for example on analyses and optimization of Integrated production networks in chemical industry. For more details, have a look at the program. A look ahead into the upcoming version Umberto 6 and an overview of other software development project at ifu Hamburg was presented before the workshop ended.

As one of the highlights during the workshop, the 2nd Umberto Student Award 2006 was handed out to the most successful student project with Umberto. A separate news item features the student award.

During the coffee and lunch breaks attendees had the possibility to get to know each other, discuss their projects and questions regarding Umberto, and exchange ideas.
